100-129 mmHg

What should you do with a abnormal value?
Record, Report to the nurse
What side of the diaphragm should be used for adults (16+)?
The larger side
What side of the diaphragm should be used for children (15-)?
The smaller side
How do you know which side is open?
The side that has the dot on is open to listen
How do we count heart rate?
Count the heart beats for 30 seconds and multiply by 2, or count for 60 seconds.
How do we take radial pulse?
Taken from the thumb side of the wrist, NEVER use thumb to take pulse

Needs to be filled with 25 vital signs, use initials, fill out full table
How do we take respirations?
Inspiration/expiration = inhale/exhale
They also equal one respiration
Hand on shoulder when taking or ask them to put their hand on their opposite shoulder
Respirations
Record 30 seconds x2
Or count 60 seconds
Can have MOE of 2
(Don’t let them know you are taking respirations)
Understanding blood pressure cuff
1.Tick marks go up by 2, and then up by 10 on thick line
2. Should always end in an even number
3. Top number (S): where needle is when you hear first beat
4. Bottom number (D): where needle is when you hear last beat
5. Adjust to appropriate sized cuff for the patients needs
Steps of taking blood pressure
- Have patient sit with feet flat on the ground
- Place blood pressure cuff on, make sure balloon is over brachial artery
- Twist bulb to right until you feel resistance
- Pump up between 160-180
- Listen for first beat, and last beat
- Take blood pressure off
- Record the systolic/diastolic
