Vital Signs Flashcards
Define vital signs?
A way to measure, whether homeostasis is maintained or not.
What is the minimum set of vitals you can take
HR,RR,BP,CRT, SpO2, GCS
What is an healthy adults heart rate?
Between 60 and 100 bpm
Why do we check the pulse?
To fine the rate (bpm)
To find the Volume - full / bounding or thready
To find the rhythm- regular or irregular
What is bloody pressure ?
The amount of force exerted on the arterial walls by the blood volume.
What is blood pressure measured in?
Millimetres of Mercury- mmHg
What is systolic blood pressure?
When the heart is contracting.
Left ventricle pumping phase.
The top figure .
What is diastolic blood pressure?
When the heart is relaxed.
Ventricle relaxed and refilling.
Bottom figure.
What is a normal blood pressure?
120/80mmHg
What is prehypertensive blood pressure?
120-139/80-89mmHg
What is a hypertensive bloody pressure?
140-179/90-109mmHg
What is Capillary Refill time (CRT)
A way to Measure peripheral perfusion.
Blood flow to tissue.
What is a normal CRT?
Less an 2 seconds.
What respiratory rate (RR)?
Number of respirations per minute
What is a normal rest rate (RR)
12-16 per minute
What is Oxygen saturation (SpO2)
A way to Measure how much oxygen is bound to Haemoglobin in arterial blood.
What is the normal Oxygen saturation?%
94% to 100%
What is blood glucose levels (BGL)?
A way of measuring the level of glucose circulating in the blood .
What is the normal (BGL) level?
Between 4-7 mol/L
What is the normal body temperature ?
36.5 degrees to 37.2 degrees
What is the Glasgow coma scale (GCS)?
A way to Measure the degree of neurological dysfunction.
How do we do the GCS ?
Checking responsiveness of.
Eyes
Verbal
Motor
What does (HDC) stand for?
Health and Disability commission.
