Vital Pulp Therapy Flashcards
6 Pulp Diagnosis
-Normal Pulp
-Reversible Pulpitis
-Irreversible pulpitis
-Pulp necrosis
-Previously treated tooth
-Previously initiated treatment
What is meant by Reversible Pulpitis
Pulp tissue are inflammed due to a particular stimulus and usually the inflammation resolves after suitable management
What is meant by irreversible pulpitis
pulp tissue are severely inflamed due to a limit will not heal
- asymptomatic or symptomatic
what is meant by vital pulp therapy
aims to retain the pulp vitality after removing part or all of the pulp that has been impaired due to trauma or caries
-mature or immature teeth
-mainly for reversible pulpitis
3 treatments for vital pulp therapy
direct pulp capping
partial pulpotomy
complete pulpotomy
6 steps of vital pulp therapy
-isolation
-caries removal
-coronal amputation (if necessary)
-coronal seal
-therapeutic agent
-haemostasis and disinfection
what situation do we perform direct pulp capping
- exposure of pulp during cavity prep
- after complete caries removal
- tooth should respond normally to ept& sensisbility tests
when do we perform a partial pulpotomy and what does it involve
indicated in reversible/irreversible pulpitis/ traumatic exposure
-involved removal of 1-3mm inflammed coronal pulp tissue
-haemostasis with 5 mins
when do we perform complete pulpotomy and what does it involve
- reversible/irreversible pulpitis
complete removal of coronal pulp tissue
haemostatis within 10 mins
sodium hypochlorite use
hameostasis
disinfection
biofilm removal
clearance of dentine chips
4 properties of therapeutic agents
sealing
antimicrobial
non-cytotoxic
radiopacity
3 examples of therapeutic agents
mta
dycal
biodentine
how do we manage teeth with irreversible pulpitis
