Salience (i.e. The salient image is…)
The distance between objects. Sometimes used to infer a relationship.
Proximity
Used to emphasise contrasting differences of 2 people/objects
Juxtaposition
Juxtaposition for to say it for colour
Tonal contrast
When one object is on top of another
Superimposed
An object taking up the majority of the image
Usurps. (E.g The cyclone usurps the majority of the image making the foregrounded man look insignificant and powerless in its presence)
When lighting is bright
High key lighting
When lighting is dark
Low key lighting
Positioning viewer to look up at the subject. Giving the subject a sense of dominance or power.
Low angle
Positions viewer to look down on subject. Suggesting the subject is powerless or inferior in some way.
High angle
An image captured on an angle
Oblique
The composition of how elements of an image are arranged.
Mise-en-scène
E.g. The still imsge uses featured of mise-en-scène, specifically costume and high-key lighting to construct the idea that…
