Vision Therapy Evaluation Testing Flashcards
What is the purpose of doing Vision therapy evaluation testing?
To determine a diagnosis, and then determine the best treatment.
When are VT evaluations typically done?
They are done after the comprehensive exam, after the patient tries their new prescription and is able to adapt to them. Typically between 4-6 weeks.
When using Compulink and are charting In the VT Exam template, what must you not forget to chart?
Mood and Affect
Social Hx and school information
What tests are absolutely necessary for doing a complete VT evaluation?
Chief complaint
History
Medications and allergies
Mood and Orientation
Chair Skills (VAs, Pupils, EOM, CVF)
What are the 4 main areas you are assessing when a patient comes in for a VT evaluation?
Teaming
Tracking
Focusing
Visual Perception / Visual Information Processing
What tests could be done to observe a patients ability to use teaming? (6)
1) Cover Test (D and N)
2) NPC
3) Stereopsis (global and focal)
4) Phorias (D and N)
5 )Vergence ranges (D and N; BI and BO)
6) BU/ BD
What tests could be done to observe a patients ability to use tracking? (4) What does each measurement test? How many of these do you need to perform?
1) Maples Test - saccades and pursuits
2) K-D - saccades
3) DEM - saccades
4) ReadAlyzer/ RightEye - Saccades while reading Pursuits (RE)
What tests could be done to observe a patients ability to use focusing? (4)
1) Lag of accommodation - FCC or MEM
2) Accommodative Amp
3) Accommodative facility - +/- 2 for patients under 35
4) NRA/PRA
What are the two different symptom survey? Are symptom surveys statically valid? Why are they important?
COVD-QOL and CISS
Yes they are statistically valid. They have been highly researched and gives a measurable way to see if patient is making any improvements and sees where they land with their symptoms .
How many questions are asked in the COVD-QOL survey now? How many were there initially? What score is indicative of a patient with a binocular vision disorder?
-19 questions are asked on the new
-30 were asked on the old
-A score above 20 indicates a patient has binocular vision disorder.
-A score below 20 means the patient has made improvement and doesn’t have BV disorder.
What does CISS survey stand for? How many questions are on the survey? What are the scores dependent on? What are the different scores indicating a BV disorder? How many points does the change have to be in order for it to be clinically significant in showing improvement?
-Convergence Insufficiency Symptom Survey
-15 questions
-Score is age-dependent
-Score above 16 for ages 9-17 are indicative of BV disorder
-Score above 21 for ages 18+ is indicative of BV disorder
-A change in 10 points is needed for it to be clinically significant.
What symptom survey is better at getting at the nuances of visual perception and processing (lose stuff/forgetful/does not use time well/etc.)?
COVD-QOL
