Vision Neuro Anatomy Flashcards
What are the three3 fluid chambers of the eye
Anterior Chamber
Posterior Chamber
Vitreous Chamber
What does aqueous humor do
Provides nutrients to the lens
moves from posterior to anterior through ciliary body
Action of ciliary body
When looking further away they relax
when looking closer they contract to thicken the lens
Role of the Retina
Has photoreceptos furthest away from the light
Rod- no color low light
cone- high light and color
What 3 cranial nerves control eye movements
3-oculomotor
4- Trochlear
6- Abducens
Role of CN 3
Does most of eye movements
move eye up, down and out
lifts eyelids
Role of CN 4
Rotates eye, depresses the eye
Down and in
Role of CN 6
Moves eye laterally
What are the two streams of information form the visual cortex
ventral and dorsal
What information does the dorsal stream take in
Spatial relations and general info
What information does the ventral stream account for
Recognition and description
more specific
What does visual integrity asssess
acuity
Refraction
Contrast sensitivity
What does visual efficiency assess
oculomotor control
binocular vision
What is anopia
lesion somewhere along the tract
individual is aware of anopia
What happens to vision over 40 years
lens lose flexibility and isn’t able to adjust as things move closer
Need bifocals or reading glasses
Intervention for contrast sensitivity
Compensations!!
Higher contrast, increased lighting, different colors, bolded letters, bright colors/tapes around environment
What is Visual efficiency
how the eyes move together
Ocular alignment or binocular vision disorders
inability to fuse image
incoordination of eye muscles
Causes of Ocular alignment or binocular vision disorders
damage to CN or MLF in brain stem
Damage to CN 4
Weakness or asymmetry of strength of eye muscles
Strabismus
ocular misalignment
Classifications of Strabismus
Tropia=constant
Phoria= present sometimes or worsens with fatigue
Hyper=superior
Hypo=inferior
Exo=out
eso=in
Amblyopia
Vision is less than 20/20 in one eye even though anatomy is normal
Brain is only using the strong eye
Patching is used to force brain to use the less used/weaker eye
Convergence vs Divergence
Convergence= adjust gaze as a target come closer
Divergence= adjust vision as target moves away
Ocular ROM
want to work on monocular first then binocular
supports pursuits
