What is the difference between mission and vision?

Vision is what you want to achieve. Mission is how you do it.
The vision is the future of the organisation, and the mission is how you get to that future. So the missions statement clariefies the scope and objectives of the business.
The vision is unlikely to change even if leadership changes, whereas new leadership will often change the mission statement.
The vision is the long term aspirations, the mission sets out the immediate purpose.
