Vision Flashcards
What is the retina?
The interior of the eye where images are projected onto.
Photoreceptors
Receptors on the eyes that allow us to see
What is the cornea?
Transparent convex tissue on the eye that focuses light. Reason for shitty eye sight
Iris
the area of the eye that is colored
Pupil
Can contract to focus the light
Lens
Behind the iris, allows for more focusing.
What kind of receptors are one the retina?
Cones and rods
Cones
Permit color vision
Rods
Sensitivity in darkness
Where are cones most concentrated?
In the fovea, the area that is in the direct line of sight.
What photochemical is in rods?
Rhodopsin. When it is hit by light, it breaks down which causes AP
What is dark adaptation?
You come inside and all the rods are inactive because rhodopsin was destroyed.
Neural convergence
This is the reason why we have difference in rods vs cones. They send their info to the bipolar neurons different. Rods send in a lot of info to bipolar, but loses information that way. Cones are 1:1 with the bipolar neurons
Where do bipolar cells send their synapses to?
ganglion cells
