Visible Light - Colours Flashcards
What are the primary colours of light?
Red, blue, green
What colour does blue and red make
Magenta
What colour does green and red make
Yellow
What secondary colour does blue and green make
Cyan
What is white light made up of
of all the spectrum colours
Does red or violet have a larger wavelength
Red
Transparent -
- Allows all the incident light through
- transmits nearly all light (see through )
Translucent -
Allows some light through but is scattered / refracted
- transmits some light
Opaque -
No light passes through
- all wavelength are either absorbed or reflected
- reflected rays determine the colour
What are colour filters used for
To filter out different wavelengths of light, so only certain colours are transmitted - rest are absorbed
What do primary colour filters do
- only allows one of the 3 primary colours to be transmitted
If white light is shone at a green filter at a piece of white paper, what colour would the paper be through the lense and why?
Green
- only the green wavelengths would transmit through
If you looked at a blue object through a green filter what colour would the paper appear as and why?
Black
- the green filter would block the blue light from passing through
- no light reflected into the eye —> black
What colours would a non- primary colour filter let through
- the wavelengths of the came colour as the filter
- Wavelength of the primary colours that add together to make secondary colour
What colour light would a yellow filter let through ?
- yellow
- red + green
