Visceral Reflexes Flashcards
What are the six visceral reflexes?
- pupillary light reflex
- Accommodation reflex
- ciliospinal reflex
- oculocardiac reflex
- carotid sinus reflex
- bulbocavernosus reflex
What is the afferent and efferent CN’s associated with the pupillary light reflex?
Afferent: CN ll
Efferent: CN lll
What CN does accommodation reflex test?
CN lll
What is the afferent and efferent segmental levels associated with the ciliospinal reflex?
Afferent: cervicals and CN V
Efferent: Cervical sympathetics
What is a negative response the the ciliospinal reflex (meaning what is suppose to happen)?
Dilation of the pupil on the painful side of stimulation
What is a positive response to the ciliospinal reflex?
abscence of pupil dilation on painful side meaning there may be a lesion of the cervical sympathetics
If a positive ciliospinal reflex is elicited what should be done next b (y you the doctor?
take a P-A & Lateral chest film to look for pan coast tumor
What is the most common cause of compression on the cervical sympathetics?
pan coast tumor
What two visceral reflexes are used in hypertensive crisis’?
- Oculocardiac reflex
- carotid sinus reflex
What are the afferent and efferent CN’s associated with oculocardiac reflex?
Afferent: CN V
Efferent: CN X
What is the response the patient experiences to the oculocardiac reflex?
decrease in HR and a fall in BP
What are the afferent and efferent
What are the afferent and efferent CN’s associated with Carotid sinus reflex?
Afferent: CN lX
Efferent: CN X
What is the response to carotid sinus reflex?
decrease in HR and fall in BP
Is the carotid sinus reflex performed unilaterally or bilateral?
either
