Virus Life Cycles Flashcards
0
Q
What is an example of a virus that uses the Lytic Cycle?
A
Influenza (flu)
(Ex. H1N1, Bird Flu/Avian Flu, Spanish Flu)
1
Q
What are the steps of the Lytic Cycle?
A
- Attachment- Virus attaches to bacteria
- Injection- Virus injects DNA into bacteria
- Mass production- Virus forces bacteria to produce virus proteins
- Assembly- Virus parts assemble in bacteria
- Lysis- Cell breaks open and lets out viruses
2
Q
What are the steps of the Lysogenic Cycle?
A
- Attachment- Virus attaches itself to bacteria
- Injection- Virus injects its DNA into bacteria
- Virus DNA becomes part of bacteria DNA and lies dormant
- As bacteria cell divides, virus DNA multiplies
- Mass Production- Virus forces bacteria to produce virus parts
- Cell lyses and mass invasion of virus begins

A
HIV= Human Immunodeficiency Virus
