Virtualization and Cloud Computing Concepts Flashcards
Offers computer networking, storage, load balancing, routing, and VM hosting
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
Provides various software solutions to organizations, especially the ability to develop applications in a virtual environment without the cost or administration of a physical platform
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
Offers access to applications that are provided by a third party over the internet
Software as a Service (SaaS)
XaaS
Anything as a Service
Public Cloud
Service provider offers applications and storage space to the general public over the internet
Private Cloud
Designed with a particular organization in mind. A limited number of people have access.
Hybrid Cloud
Mixture of public and private clouds, with on prem and cloud servers involved. Confidential data is usually kept on-prem.
Community Cloud
Multiple organizations share the public portion. Appeals to organizations that usually have a common form of computing and storing of data.
Edge Computing
An ecosystem of resources and applications in new network services; intended to provide greater network speeds, low latency, and computational power near the user (hence the edge) rather than being backhauled to a central location
Fog Computing
Describes decentralization of computing infrastructure by “bringing the cloud to the ground”. Puts data, compute, storage, and applications near the end user or IoT device
Transit Gateway
System that can be used to interconnect a VPC and on-prem networks
VM Sprawl
When an organization can no longer effectively control or manage all the VMs on a network or in the cloud
