Hypervisor
Software or firmware components used to virtualize system resources on host system.
1 type, bare metal/native hypervisors, run directly on the system hardware. Direct access to hardware, no OS to load as the hypervisor is OS itself
2. Type hosted hypervisors runs a host operating system that provides virtualization services.
Type 1 is faster, more efficient but with greater hardware requirements and expenses
VDI - virtual desktop infrastructure
Is a virtualization technology that hosts desktop OS on a centralized server in data center
persistent VDI
Provides each user with his own desktop image, can be customized and saved for future use - like traditional desktop
Non persistent VDI
Provides a pool of uniform desktops that users can access when needed. Non-persistent desktops revert to their original state, each time the users log out
