Natural history and clinical features of EBV including the cancers associated w EBV

A

Natural history: usually get the virus in childhood when it is asymptomatic. In adults it can cause glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis) or cancers.

Glandular fever = fatigue, fever, pharyngitis, things to do with mononucleocytes (T and B cells) –> lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly

Cancers = Burkitt’s lymphoma (B cells), Nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, post-transplant lymphoma
