Viral infections 3 Flashcards
Viral conditions that commonly produce a rash and arthralgia?
Alphaviruses: RRV, BFV
Arbovirus definition
Arthropod borne viruses
Main clinical syndromes caused by arboviruses?
Fever, rash, arthritis (alphaviruses = RRV, BFV, Chik) Encephalitis (flaviviruses = MVE) Haemorrhagic fever (flavi = dengue; and bunya)
Life cycle of RRV
Mosquito vector species = Culex and Aedes (same as BFV)
Marsupial reservior
Life cycle of BFV
Mosquito vector species = Culex and Aedes (same as RRV)
Life cycle Chikungungya
Mosquito vector species = Aedes (same as RRV and BFV)
Monkey reservoir
Life cycle of MVE
Mosquito vector species = Culex (same as RRV and BFV)
Bird reservoir
Life cycle of dengue
Mosquito vector species = Aedes aegypti
Natural history and clinical features of EBV including the cancers associated w EBV
Natural history: usually get the virus in childhood when it is asymptomatic. In adults it can cause glandular fever (infectious mononucleosis) or cancers.
Glandular fever = fatigue, fever, pharyngitis, things to do with mononucleocytes (T and B cells) –> lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly
Cancers = Burkitt’s lymphoma (B cells), Nasopharyngeal carcinoma, Hodgkin’s lymphoma, post-transplant lymphoma
