Q

If mother is positive for HBsAg and HBeAg, what happens to the infants?

A

70-90% of infants infected.

90% become chronic carriers.

20
Q

If mother is positive for only HBsAg, what happens to infants?

A

<10% of infants infected.

90%become chronic carriers

21
Q

Avg incubation period for hepatitis B is?

A

120days.

22
Q

What are the serologic tests for HBV?

A

HBsAg test
Anti HBsAg
Anti Hbc

23
Q

What are the approved drugs for hbv?

A

Interferon alpha 2b

Entecavir
Adefovir
Telbivudine
Tenofovir

24
Q

What is the epidemiology for Hcv?

A

200million infected globally

2.3 million people infected each year worldwide

25
Q

What is the mode of transmission of Hcv?

A

Blood born virus with low risk of sexual transmission.

Transmission.. Nosocomial, genital mutilation, ritual sacrifice etc

26
Q

What are the risk factors for Hcv?

A

Injection drug abuse.
Dental surgery
Therapeutic injection
Intravenous drug

27
Q

What is the pathogenesis of Hcv?

A

They have a predilection for hepatocytes.

They reach the hepatocytes through the sinusoids.

Complex interactions on the surface of hepatocytes leads to endocytosis of viral particle aided by clarthin.

The rna is released into the cytoplasm.

Replication is dependent on liver specific microRNA 122.

28
Q

What are the IPC measures for hepatitis treatment?

A

Vaccine for hav hbv and hev

Treatment of acute cases of Hcv

Avoid needle stick injury

Safe blood transfusion by proper screening of blood

Sterilisation of medical devices, equipment etc
