Immunological Tolerance Flashcards
What is immunologic tolerance?
Unresponsiveness to antigen that is induced by previous exposure to that antigen.
What are tolerogens?
Antigens that induce tolerance.
What is self tolerance?
Tolerance to self antigens.
What are the classification of immunologic tolerance??
Central tolerance.
Peripheral tolerance.
What is central tolerance?
Refers to death of self reactive b and t lymphocytes clones during maturation in the central lymphoid organs.
What is peripheral tolerance?
It’s for T cells that escape intrathymic negative selection because they can cause tissue damage.
What are the 3 mechanisms in peripheral tolerance?
Clonal delection by activated induced cell death.
Clonal anergy.
Peripheral suppression.
What is clonal anergy?
It’s a phenomenon in which the t cells are capable of recognising the antigen but do not have the co stimulatory signals to mount an immune response.
Peripheral suppression of T cells is mostly carried out by?
