- Fashionable in 90s due to Condrieu, relatively rare
- Mid 2000’s planted all over Languedoc + other worldwide wine regions
- Commonly blended w/Syrah copying C.Rotie
- C. Rotie Up to 20%, more likely 5% used as a Stabiliser
- Co-Fermentation w/Syrah in C. Rotie
- Ch Grillet 100% Viognier
- One of smallest wine appellations in FR 3.5ha
- Enclave within Condrieu
- Vines need Warm cliamte, prone to Powdery Mildew and Coulure.
- Deep Yellow Grape = High Colour + Hi Alcohol
- Stone fruit - Apricot + Peach, blossom, sometimes Savoury undertone
- Languedoc-R has highest plantings, Central Coast in USA, esp Virginia
- Good blending grape, esp with other Rhone whites - Marsanne, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Vermentino/Rolle
