VII. Respiration Flashcards
respiration reaction?
C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂ → 6CO₂ + 6H₂O + 36 ATP
how do fish breathe
Fish breathe by taking in water through their mouth. The water passes over the gills, where oxygen in the water diffuses into the fish’s blood, and carbon dioxide moves from the blood to the water. After that, the water, now with carbon dioxide, exits through the gill slits
effect of temperature on fish respiration?
Higher water temperatures result in lower O2 levels, causing goldfish to move their opercula more to obtain oxygen. At lower temperatures, O2 levels are higher, so opercular movement is less.
effect of strenuous exercise on human respiration/heart rate?
Strenuous exercise increases heart rate to supply muscles with more oxygen
