Q

What is role allocation and what does Davis and Moore say about it?

Why do they believe sometimes education system inquality is necassery?

A

Role allocation is when children are sifted and sorted into groups depending on their ability of skills. Davis and Moore say that education provides this and the pupils that achieve the highest qualifications get high positions

They believe that although role allocation may be inequal, it is necessary as you would need the most talented and skilled to take on the complex and important jobs. E.g it would be insufficient for someone with less skills to be a surgeon - thats dangerous

EVALUATION:
What did Wolf find?

What does Tumin say?

What does the interactionist, Wrong, say?

What does new right and neoliberist say?

A

High quality apprenticeships are rare and often dont even lead to high paying jobs. This means that schools dont teach specialist skills adequatley.

Argues that Davis and Moores argument is circular. Like we know a job is important because its highly rewarded and its highly rewarded because its important

The functionalist view is over socialised and they assume students always accept the school values and teachings.

They say state education fail to prepare students for work.
