• manafacturing jobs are traditional mens jobs but due to globalisation most of it has moved out of uk and into developing countries to take advantage of cheap labour.
• Mitsos and Browne (socologists) say this causes men to be demotivated to get qualifications as they have limited chance of getting a job.
• however, although this may be true in some cases, its good to know that the decline was largely in w/c jobs that require less or no qualifications.

• the achievemtn gap is bcos of boys poor literacy and language skills.
• this could be bcos parents didnt read to son or the fact that mothers reading to kids made it a feminine activity.
• the boys leisure activies are mainly spors and games which had no help for language development whereas girls sit in and talk with friends.
