for 2000 years the Vietnamese had fought against invasion and conquer. It was also said by historians that they had survived for the 1000 or so years of foreign (Chinese) domination and only suffer little cultural damage ie. not just assimilating like most countries.

They sought out God, Glory, and gold.
why was Vietnam so appealing to other Countries
Vietnam was a gateway to South East Asia and mainland China. It was a trading point in Asia and was rich in rice, copper, and coal. It was also very accessible to waterways
How did Japan Invade Vietnam
While France was fighting in Europe japan stepped in and took Vietnam and they were welcomed in open arms by the Vietnamese as they were bewildered by how an Asian race was able to conquer a European one.

In the 5 years of Japan’s occupation, the region was pillaged to fuel the armies back in Japan. this resulted in the Starvation of 25% of North Vietnamese (1.5-2mil)

the Battle of Dien Bien Phu. it was also the start of American presence in Vietnam as they supported France in their efforts and paid for about 80% of the costs despite not fighting.
Why was DBP’s location bad for the french
it was in the middle of a valley surrounded by heavy Jungle and hills. their only imports were through the air and they also Underestimated the Vietnamese Nationalism as they carried heavy artillery and weapons miles and miles through bush.
Why did Vietnam Prevail in DBP
Their nationalism lead them to sacrifice themselves in human wave attacks in ways that the French had never seen before
