Data sent from the head-end to the customer’s device. For cable boxes this term does not include the video signal, this only includes data such as authorization. (The head-end talking to the customer’s device.)

Data sent from the customer’s device (Cable Modem, eMTA, DST) to the head-end. (The customer’s device talking to the head-end.)

SNR
A
Signal to Noise Ratio. This is the amount of noise on a line. A high value indicates that the cable signal is louder than the noise. A low value means that the noise is beginning to drown out the signal.
