Ebenezer Scrooge is a very mean old man, who doesn’t show any kindness to other people at any time, even at Christmas. One Christmas he is visited by a number of ghosts, who show him the past, the present and the future in turn.

- lots of people turned to poetry because of the horrors of the war
- glimpse into every day life of the soldier at the front
- in 1914, the war started with enthusiasm all over Europe
- most people thought that the war would end by Christmas, but it turned out to last almost four years
- poppy is the national symbol for remembrance day
