What is the definition of a victim?
- A person against whom an offence has been committed by another person.
- A person who through offence suffers physical harm or loss or damage of property.
- A parent or legal guardian of a CYP who is a victim unless the parent or guardian if the offender.
- A member of the immediate family of a victim if the victim dies or becomes incapable, as long as the immediate family member is not the offender.
Who can be referred to Victim Support?
Any victim of a crime, trauma, crash or sudden death who need emotional or practical support regardless of the offence type or nature.
Who must be referred to Victim Support?
If the incident is serious (crash fatality, completed suicide, homicide etc.)
If the victim is significant affected by the incident.
If the victims are likely to be involved with the justice system for an extended period of time.
