WHO ARE VICTIMS DEFINITIONS

A
  1. The person who is directly affected - the person against whom the offence is committed - or who suffer physical harm or property loss or damage from it.
  2. The parent or guardian of a young person or child (under 17) and
  3. The members of a persons immediate family where that person dies or is incapable as a result

WHO ARE NOT VICTIMS

A
  1. Parent or guardian of a child or YP if they have been charged with the offence
  2. An immediate family member or a person who dies or is incapable as a result of an offence - not a victim if charged with the offence.
  3. Person who commits an offence cannot be a victim of his own offending

WHO CAN BE REGISTERED?

A

Only victims of serious offences in section 29 of Victims Rights Act. The offences must be:

  1. A sexual assault or other serious assault.
  2. One that resulted in serious injury to a person, death or being incapable.
  3. Victim is having ongoing fears for thier safety for themselves or immediate family
