VFR Maneuvers Flashcards
What is the HALTE acronym ?
Height ( Safe for exercice ) Aircraft ( Cockpit checks ) Location ( Appropriate ) Traffic ( Checked ) Execute
What is the minimum height to execute steep turns , slow flight and stalls ?
3000 feet AGL
What are the minimum heights for Power On Stall with Turn, Spin and Spiral ?
Power on Stall with Turn : 4500 feet AGL
Spin : 4500 feet AGL recovery over 2000 feet AGL
Spiral : 3500 feet AGL recovery over 2000 feet AGL
What is the cockpit check ?
From right to left :
Fuel selector Mixture rich Carb heat OFF Oil temp and pressure OK Magnetos BOTH Master ON Primer locked
What is the procedure for Steep Turn ( 45° turn ) ?
Entry speed at 95 Kts
HALTE
Cruise speed, flaps up
turn with power as required
To exit : Maintain altitude and heading
What is the procedure for Slow flight ?
HALTE Apply carb heat and reduce throttle Flaps 10°(85Kts) ; Flaps 20-40° ( 60Kts) 55 Kts Maintain slow flight, power as required
To exit : Full power Carb heat off Nose on the horizon Maintain altitude and heading Flaps retraction ( 20° first then by 10° )
What is the procedure for Power Off Stall ?
HALTE Carb heat Flaps 10°(85Kts) ; Flaps 20-40° ( 60Kts) Throttle idle Maintain heading and altitude When there is the stall warning call stall
To exit : Nose down Full power and nose on the horizon Carb heat off Flaps retraction ( 20° first then by 10° )
What is the procedure for Power On Stall ?
HALTE Carb heat as required Throttle as required Flaps 10°(85Kts) ; Flaps 20-40° ( 60Kts) Maintain heading When there is the stall warning call stall
To exit : Nose down Full power and nose on the horizon Carb heat off Flaps retraction ( 20° first then by 10° )
What is the procedure for Spin ?
HALTE
Confirm flaps up
Carb heat ON and Throttle Idle
Maintain heading and altitude
Wait for stall warning followed by full stall and call “Stall”
Pull Controls and apply full Left or Right Rudder
Wait for the recovery sigal
To exit :
1 Power to idle, neutralize ailerons ,apply and hold full opposite rudder.
2 when rotation stops move control column positively forward to break the stall.
3 Centralize rudder and level wings.
4 Apply power as necessary to return to normal flight.
What is the procedure for Sideslip ?
HALTE
Carb heat ON and Throttle Idle
Reduce speed to 70 Kts
Bank the aircraft and apply opposite rudder while pushing the nose down (Full opposite rudder for forward slip)
Maintain heading as mentioned by the examiner
To exit :
Smoothly reduce aileron and rudder deflection
Apply cruise power
Carb heat OFF
