Take offs procedures Flashcards
What are the precautions to take for the Run-Up ?
Do not park on gravel, dirt areas or over ice and waters.
The nose must be into the wind ( in winter if it is very cold 45° from the wind is OK ).
In winter conditions the oil temp must be in green before flight.
The Aircraft must be as close as possible to the taxiway.
What is the procedure for Normal Take Off ?
Flaps Up
Line up with the centerline
(Carb heat off)
Apply full power ( visual confirmation of the RPM and engine parameters. )
Rule of thumb if you are not at 70% of the rotation speed when you reach 50% of the runway -> reject take off
Rotate 55 kts ( 60 Kts C172 )
Best rate of Climb 67 kts ( 73 Kts C172 )
Maintain runway track during climb
What is the procedure for Short Field Take off ?
(With obstacles -> Flaps UP/Without obstacles -> Flaps 10° )
Line up with the centerline
(Carb heat off)
Hold the brakes
Apply full power
Release the brakes
( visual confirmation of the RPM and engine parameters. )
Rule of thumb if you are not at 70% of the rotation speed when you reach 50% of the runway -> reject take off
Rotate 55 kts ( 60 Kts C172 )
Best rate of Climb 67 kts without obstacles ( 73 Kts C172 )
Best angle of Climb 56 kts with obstacles ( 59 Kts C172 )
At 300 feet confirm positive rate of climb and flaps up (if any )
Maintain runway track during climb
What is the procedure for Soft Field Take off ?
Flaps 10°
Control level with no brake
Line up (power remain at 1000 RPM)
Carb heat off
Apply throttle smoothly to full power
( visual confirmation of the RPM and engine parameters. )
Rule of thumb if you are not at 70% of the rotation speed when you reach 50% of the runway -> reject take off
Put a slight back pressure to keep the nose wheel slightly above ground and maintain directional control
When aircraft lift off ,put the control level to maintain the plane in ground effect.
Best rate of Climb 67 kts ( 73 Kts C172 )
At 300 feet confirm positive rate of climb and flaps up (if any )
Maintain runway track during climb
What is the departure procedure from an uncontrolled aerodrome ?
Before entering the manoeuvering area communicate your intentions at the radio.
Advise before take off.
After take off climb to circuit altitude to join downwind leg, communicate your position on downwind.
Where you are supposed to turn base climb 500 ft above circuit altitude instead to proceed enroute
Communicate your position when you exit the zone.
