Landings procedures Flashcards

1
Q

What is the Normal procedure for landing ?

A

Mid downwind -> before landing checklist
Abeam threshold reduce throttle and maintain altitude ( around 2000 RPM )
Flaps 10° when speed < 85Kts
Aim for 65 kts speed
On base 20 ° flaps
Maintain rate of descent around 500 fpm and 65kts ( adjust rate of descent with power speed with attitude )
If rate of descent too low ( flaps or forward slip as required )
Adjut centerline ( sideslip if crosswind )
At Flare Throttle Idle
Keep pulling step by step until touchdown
To brake pull the controls and use smoothly the brakes

Q

What is the procedure for Short Field landing ?

A

Mid downwind -> before landing checklist
Abeam threshold reduce throttle and maintain altitude ( around 2000 RPM )
Flaps 10° when speed < 85Kts
Aim for 65 kts speed
On base 20 ° flaps
Maintain rate of descent around 500 fpm and 60 kts ( adjust rate of descent with power speed with attitude )
Manage descent over the obstacle ( flaps or forward slip as required )
Adjut centerline ( sideslip if crosswind )
On short final Full flaps 55 kts ( 59 Kts C172 )
Select a touchdown point
At Flare Throttle Idle
Keep pulling step by step until touchdown
To brake pull the controls and use smoothly the brakes

What is the procedure for Soft Field landing ?

A

Mid downwind -> before landing checklist
Abeam threshold reduce throttle and maintain altitude ( around 2000 RPM )
Flaps 10° when speed < 85Kts
Aim for 65 kts speed
On base 20 ° flaps
Maintain rate of descent around 500 fpm and 65kts ( adjust rate of descent with power speed with attitude )
If rate of descent too low ( flaps or forward slip as required )
Adjust centerline ( sideslip if crosswind )
On short final Full flaps 65kts
At Flare Throttle as required ( around 1400 RPM )
Keep nose wheel slightly above ground and maintain directional control during landing run.

Q

What is the procedure for Precision Landing (Simulated engine failure ) ?

A

An authorization from ATC is required to perform this landing :
( clean the engine above 600 feet AGL )

Mid downwind -> before landing checklist
Select a touchdownpoint.
Abeam touchdownpoint -> Carb heat ON and Throttle Idle speed 60Kts
If rate of descent too low ( flaps or forward slip as required ).
To brake pull the controls and use smoothly the brakes.

Q

What is the procedure for Precautionary Landing ?

A

The height for low level inspection must be communicated . The change of speed according to the wind ( gust ) must also be explained :

60 kts Flaps 20°
1000 feet AGL select suitable field
Upwind of the field do the 1st inspection. Pan Pan Pan.
Follow normal circuit pattern ( Left circuit if possible ).
On mock base maintain 500 feet AGL.
On mock final Flaps 20° adjust power and trim for 60Kts.
Passing over the field do the 2nd inspection. Passenger briefing.
Overshoot and integrate normal circuit pattern at 1000 feet.
Select a touchdown point.
On final flaps down 60 Kts
Avionic master OFF and electrical switches OFF
Master switch OFF
Unlatch the doors
Flare procedure according to type of landing ( short, soft, normal )
Magnetos OFF and Mixture Idle Cutoff
Brakes according to the type of landing.

Q

What is the procedure for Forced Landing ?

A

A change of field is acceptable from an altitude where a landing could still have been mad on the original landing site.
( Clear the engine every 500 feet )

Glide speed 60 kts ( 65 Kts C172 )
Fuel selector ON, Mixture Rich, Carb Heat ON, Magnetos Both
Select suitable field and touchdown point then apply the 360 ° technique.
Restart procedures

If no restart :

Mixture Idle Cut OFF, Fuel selector OFF, Magnetos OFF
Mayday call
Passenger briefing ( normal + brace )
Unlatch doors
Flaps as required
Activate ELT ( if remote area )
Master OFF
Flare procedure according to type of landing ( short, soft, normal )
Brakes according to the type of landing.

Q

What is the landing procedure to an uncontrolled aerodrome ?

A

Communicate position 5 min prior to entering the aerodrome area.
Communicate position 5 NM of the aerodrome
Be at 500 feet above the aerodrome circuit 2NM from the aerodrome.
Communicate position 500 feet over the aerodrome circuit .
Determine runway in use and communicate your intention on how you join the circuit.
85 kts and start a 180° turn to descent to the circuit altitude.
Position when you join the circuit
Position on Downwind, Final approach and cleared of active runway.
