vertebral prac 1 - mvmts Flashcards
1
Q
the intervertebral motion segment
A
two adjacent vertebrae and the connecting tissues that bind them together.
2
Q
Height of the superior articular process:
A
can resist fwd. sliding and/or rotation
3
Q
Zygapophysial joint orientation:
A
- sup. articular facets aligned in coronal plane resist ant. translation of the sup. vertebrae and even more vertical they are
- sup. articular facets aligned in sagital plane resist axial rotation of superior vertebrae
4
Q
ligaments
A
limit mvmt.
sensory feedback
5
Q
LIMITATIONS TO MOVEMENTS OF THE VERTEBRAL COLUMN:
flx
A
- Tall superior articular processes blocking anterior translation of the superior vertebra e.g. thoracic
- Zygapophysial joints aligned in the coronal plane e.g thoracic
- Compression in the anterior intervertebral disc
Tension in the posterior annulus fibrosis fibres of the iv disc - Tension in the PLL, ligamentum flavum, supraspinous lig / ligamentum nuchae
- Tension in the zygapophysial joint capsules
- Tension in posterior muscles / fascia
- Ribs
6
Q
LIMITATIONS TO MOVEMENTS OF THE VERTEBRAL COLUMN:
ext
A
- compression in post. IVD
- tension in ant. AF fibres of IVD
- tension in ALL
- tension in ZPJ capsule
- tension in ant. muscles/fascia
7
Q
LIMITATIONS TO MOVEMENTS OF THE VERTEBRAL COLUMN:
lat. flx
A
- tension in M-L. AF fibres of IVD
- tension in intervertebral ligaments
- tension in ZPJ capsule
- tension in M-L. muscles/fascia - obliques
8
Q
LIMITATIONS TO MOVEMENTS OF THE VERTEBRAL COLUMN:
rotation
A
Tension in aligned AF fibres
- ZPJ aligned in sagital plane
- oblique
- intertransverse
