Vertebra Column Flashcards
What are the different regions of the vertebral column?
Cervical, Thoracic, Lumbar, Sacrum & Coccyx
How many vertebra is in the cervical region?
7
How many vertebra are in the thoracic region?
12
How many vertebra are in the lumbar region?
5
How many vertebra are in sacral region?
5, butt are fused into 1
How many vertebra are in the coccyx?
3 - 4, but are fused into 1
Function of the vertebral column
Support trunk and head, protect spinal cord and absorbs force during movement
What is Kyphosis
- Primary curvatures
- curves anteriorly )
- Thoracic and sacral region
What’s Lordosis
- Secondary curvatures
- Curves posteriorly (
- Cervical and lumbar region
Scoliosis
Occurs when there is an increased curvatures in kyphosis and lordosis
Vertebral arch is formed by
2 laminae and attached to body of vertebral via pedicle
What does the Vertebral body do
Used in weight bearing component
Where is foramina?
Foramen found on the anterior (front) side of sacrum
What is foramina?
A passage for spinal nerve
What is the sacral canal?
- A “tunnel” located in the sacrum,
- Passes down from the vertebral column
- Passage for spinal nerve
