What is the ‘tense’ of a verb?
There are 6 voices in Latin Now/not completed- present Now/completed- perfect Past/not completed- imperfect Past/completed- pluperfect Future/not completed- future Future/completed- future perfect
What is the ‘voice’ of a verb?
There are 2 voices in latin
Active- subject actively does the verb’s action
Passive- subject receives the action of the verb
What is the ‘mood’ of the verb?
There are 4 moods in latin
Indicative- look for that, will or has
Subjunctive- look for may, might, would or could
Infinitive
Imperative- refers to a command given to ‘you’ (the second person)
What is the present tense?
An action that is happening now
Eg I run, I am running, I do run
Look for -a, -e, or -i then a personal ending
What is the imperfect tense?
An action that was happening in the past but was interrupted.
Eg I was running, I ran, I tried to run, I kept on running, I used to run
Look for -a, -e, or -ie, then -ba- then the personal endings
What is the future tense?
An action that will be happening in the future
Eg I will run, I will be running
Look for -b/-bi/bu-
What is the perfect tense?
An action that has now happened Eg I ran, I have run Look for -i/-isti/-it/-imus/-istis/-erunt Perfect active- look for endings Perfect passive- look for 'sum'
What is the pluperfect tense?
An action that happened in the past, and is now completed.
Eg I had run (only form)
Look for -era- then the normal personal endings
What is the perfect active tense?
An action that will be completed but only in the future
Eg I will have run (but often the present tense is used in its place)
Future Perfect- look for perfect or perfect passive stems (-i, -isti.. Or sum)
Future perfect active- look for -er-/eri then the normal personal ending.
Future Perfect Active- look for ero, eris, erit, erimus, eritis, erunt
