Verbal reasoning Flashcards

1
Q

steps to success:

A
  1. read the statement / questions (there will be both on the tests: be familiar with the question types, find keywords in the statement)
  2. Scan the passage using identified key words
  3. eliminate and select (never ever ever ever ever ever leave a question blank) flag it and logically guess but don’t flag and not put an answer in.
  4. The worst happens you hav 30 seconds left and 4 sets remaining guess A for all.(be consistent with you guesses unless you know its not A then pick the next highest option so B)

Q

What are the question types? and explain them

A

Question type 1: which of the following are most likely to be true? = which one is true, work your way through A to C if none of those is true guess D don’t waste time check if it is true, also remember only one will be true

Question type 2: The writer of the passage would be least likely to agree with which of the following statements? = Which is false, again work from A to D, sounds obvious but remember 3 will be true, don’t forget that in your rush (you still hav 30 seconds to answer this question)

Question type 3: According to the passage, ….. blah blah blah?= you will be able to find key words for this one which narrows it down and makes this one faster, but it might be vague and require you to infer

Q

steps for statements

A

The skills used in statements can be used in questions , they are also faster so you should pick up more marks from these.

1) find the key word
2) scan, read the sentence with the word in if required read the sentence before and after as well,
3) apply your skills, infer a little bit if required , if you can’t work out from that it is true or false click can’t tell
3) Click the right answer, don’t click the wrong one, check you hav ticked the right answer

Q

what are the statement types?

A

ABSOLUTE language= all/ none/ stats., therefore if passage says some it would be false , or that an evaluation of evidence in the passage is made , like in a report, and the evidence suggesting fat causes cance is said to be unreliable, any statement about that would be can’t tell
INFERENCE= don’t overthink this it should be easily seen, also frequency can’t be inferred, e.g. vets feed the giraffes weekly, and the passage says the vets fed the giraffes on the 16th of april, the answer would be can’t tell

Q

In case anyone other than me uses these
sorry these are more chunks of info than anything else, but these are my notes and all I will read over before the exam, I will add to them if I learn anything else. Its always best to practice actively, so do lots of ONLINE mocks , honestly reading a PC screen is so much harder and sometimes passages require scrolling

A

GOOD LUCK!
