also used with a verb in the past that expresses indirect speech
eg) El hombre de plata dijo que había venido de otro planeta.
Uses of Future Tense
can be used as a command
eg) te comerás las espinacas = you will eat your spinach
often replaced by the present tense to convey an idea of certainty
eg) Esta noche salen para Santiago = tonight they leave for Santiago
NOT used to express willingness or unwillingness - use querer here instead
eg) Quieres cagarme este paquete por favor? = Will you cary this package for me please?
Uses of the Conditional Tense and simple alternative
expresses an event that would (or would not) take place subsequent to a reference point in the past
eg) Octavio dijo que me enviaría un mensaje = Octavio said that he would send me a message
in if statements
to express politeness with verbs such as deber, desear, gustar, poder, preferir and querer
imperfect of ir + a can be used as alternative
Use of conditional tense in if statements
imperfect subjunctive is used in the if clause and the conditional in the conclusion
eg) Si no usaras “eñes”, el mensaje te costaría menos = if you didn’t use “eñes” the message would cost you less
