Q

Give the CSF flow through the ventricles

A
  • Flows from the body of the lateral ventricles
  • Through the interventricular foramen of monroe
  • Into the 3rd ventricle
  • Through cerebral aqueduct
  • Into the 4th ventricle
  • Has 3 apertures which allow it to disperse into subarachnoid space (x2 lateral apertures and 1x median aperture)

7
Q

How is CSF produced

A

Produced in ventricles of brain by the passing of blood through tiny fenestrated capillaries within the subarachnoid space

Q

What do the plexus allow

A

Allow filtered blood plasma to be transferred to CSF and deposited within ventricles

Q

Describe CSF obstruction

A
  • CSF accumulates upstream of a blockage
  • The ventricles begin to swell and there’s ‘water on the brain’ - the abdomen and head swell
  • To resolve a shunt can be placed for CSF drainage

Q

Describe the production and function of the CSF

A

Production - In the choroid plexus, about 500ml a day
Functions - Buoyancy, cushioning affect from trauma, transport of substances and provides stable environment
