Ventnor and Wheelers Bay Flashcards
Where is the town of Ventnor?
The town of Ventnor is situated along the Undercliff, due East of the Southern tip of the island.
Describe the issues the town of Ventnor is having with the Undercliff landslide and the clear signs that movement is occurring.
Ventnor represents the greatest urban slope instability problem in the UK. Lateral movements and subsidence over the period 1960-1984 resulted in repairs to buildings, road and services amounting to more than £10M. The landslide activity includes the development of the new rear scarp at Lowtherville forming the graben which is approximately 20m wide. Obvious signs of movement include misalignment of curb stones, cracking in walls of buildings and general changes of alignment.
