Venous anatomy Flashcards
Draw the venous structure of the brain

Which are the 3 superficial veins of the brain?
- Superficial middle cerebral
- Superior anastomotic vein (Vein of Trolard)
- Inferior anastomotic vein (Vein of Labbe)
Where does the superficial middle cerebral vein drains into? (x3)
- Cavernous sinus
- Vein of Trolard -> SSS
- Vein of Labbe -> Transverse sinus
Superior anastomotic vein: Drains from and to?
(Vein of Trolard)
From sylvian fissure -> SSS
Inferior anastomotic vein: Drains from and to?
(Vein of Labbe)
From sylvian fissure -> Transverse sinus
Internal cerebral vein is located in where in the third ventricle?
Tela choroidea of the roof of the third ventricle
Internal cerebral vein is formed by union of what veins (x5)?
Thalamostriate
Epithalamic
Lateral ventricular
Choroidal
Septal
What is the path of the internal cerebral vein?
From interventricular foramen, travel over the thalamus and posterior to the quadrigeminal cistern
What does the internal cerebral vein drains into?
Vein of Galen
What does the basal vein of rosenthal drain?
Anterior and medial temporal lobe
What is the course of the basal vein of rosenthal?
Passes posterosuperiorly through the ambient cistern and joins internal cerebral vein to form vein of Galen
What veins join into the Vein of Galen? (x4)
Internal cerebral vein
Basal veins of Rosenthal
Occipital veins
Posterior callosal vein
What is the course of the vein of galen?
Travels under the splenium and merges with inferior sagittal sinus to form straight sinus
