What are the First Steps before starting Venepuncture?
A
Clean the tray with Detergent Wipes and allow to dry
Wipe with 70% Alcohol wipes and then allow to dry again
NOT ASEPTIC IF YOU DO NOT ALLOW AIR DRYING

What is the very first thing to do before taking blood?
A
Place Tourniquet
Find appropriate area for the vein
Wipe with Alcohol Wipe for 30 seconds and allow to dry for 30 seconds

How do you prepare the needle?
A
- Remove the White Cap and attach Vacutainer Device
- Flip the Pink Safety back and pull the Green cap off
- NEEDLE IS EXPOSED (KEY PART)
- Warn patient
- Hold skin TAUT to anchor vein
- Go into vein at 30 degrees
- Once inside, place blood bottles inside
- Afterwards, Remove Tourniquet first and push cotton wool/gauze on top (Tape and Pressure)
