Cannula itself
Cannula Dressing
Extension set
Saline Flush

What must you do before Cannulation?

Clean the tray with detergent wipes, followed by 70% alcohol wipes

What is the first thing to do during cannulation?

Answer 3

1. Put Tourniquet on
2. Palpate for a good vein
3. Clean the area with Alcohol Wipes (allow to dry for 30 seconds)

What do you do with your Cannula?

Answer 4

1. Put wings down
2. Move up and down from back to see if it works
3. Pull skin taut (Sharp scratch) and advance it in
4. Seeing “flashback,” undo Tourniquet and place Gauze under
5. Advance the Cannula in as you pull the needle out
6. Press at top and PULL NEEDLE OUT
7. Take extension set and fix it in
8. Use the gauze to clean
9. Apply Cannula Dressing
   - Two Strips
   - Entire thing over the Cannula
   - Remove sticker to show opaque paper
   - Inject saline and ensure there is no swelling
   - Save part for Name/DoB
