Veins Below the Diaphragm Flashcards
Gonadal Vein
O: Carries blood away from the testicle of the ovaries. Hangs off the renal vein on the left and the inferior vena cava on the right
D: Left - left renal vein then inferior vena cava
Right - Straight into the inferior vena cava
Ililumbar Vein
O: Drains vertebral segments four and five
D: None
Common Iliac Vein
O: Drains blood from the pelvis and lower limbs. The external and internal iliac veins merge to form the common iliac vein
D: Drains into the inferior vena cava
Femoral Vein
O: Receives deoxygenated blood from several significant branches. The popliteal, profunda femoris, and the great saphenour veins
D: Drawins into the right and left external iliac veins which merge to the right and left common iliac veins
Great Saphenous Vein
O: Longest vein in the body extends from top of foot (dorsal venous arch) to upper thigh, returns blood from the superficial tissues of the leg. Most superficial Vein
D: Drains into the femoral vein
Deep Femora Vein
O: Drains blood from the thigh muscles
D: Distal section of the femoral vein
Popliteal Vein
O: Drains blood away from the leg via the posterior tibial, anterior tibial, and fibular veins (the three veins that merge into it)
D: Drains into the femoral vein
Internal Iliac Vein

D: It drains into the common iliac vein which drains into the inferior vena cava
Suprarenal (adrenal) Vein
O: It drains blood from the adrenal gland
D:
Left - Renal Vein
Right - Inferior Vena Cava
Renal Vein
O: It drains blood from the kidney
D: Inferior Vena Cava
