Vasodilators Flashcards
ACTION
Vasodilators
acts directly on vascular smooth muscle relaxation which leads to vasodilation and decrease in BP
also results in decreased peripheral vascular resistance which increases cardiac output
Indications
Vasodilators
severe hypertension
malignant hypertension
hypertensive emergencies
Adverse Effects
Vasodilators
Skin changes GI upset cyanide toxicity with nitroprusside --- pink/cherry-red skin --- headache --- dizziness
Medications
Vasodilators
hydralazine
nitroprusside
minoxidil
Contraindications
Vasodilators
Don't take if you have: conditions exacerbated by decreased BP peripheral vascular disease, CAD, CHF cerebral insufficiency or tachycardia
Nursing Process- Assessment
Vasodilators
does patient have cardiovascular dysfunction Physical assessment: skin, cardiac, respiratory, abdomen ECG, weight LABS: renal/hepatic
Nursing Process (diagnosis)
Vasodilators
ineffective tissue perfusion
impaired skin integrity
acute pain
Nursing process: Implementation
Vasodilators
monitor BP closely
monitor patient closely if there is any situation that might lead to a drop in fluid volume
