Inhibits the movement of calcium ions across the cell membranes of cardiac and arterial muscle. depressing the impulse and leading to slowed conduction
decreased myocardial contractility and relaxing and dilating the arteries

Meds:
If taking diltiazem avoid cyclosporine
if taking verapamil avoid digoxin
avoid grapefruit juice

heart block
sick sinus syndrome

check skin, respirations, cardiac, neuro abdomen
vitals, ECG, pain assessment
