Vascular ectasias Flashcards
what are vascular ectasias?
a group of conditions characterized by localized dilation of pre-existing vessels
name 5 vascular ectasias?
- telangiectasia
- nevus flammeus
- struge-weber syndrome
- spider angioma
- Osler-Weber-Rendu disease
what is telangiectasia?
dilation of preformed vessels creating a focal red pinpoint lesions on skin or mucous membranes
what is nevus flammeus?
how does it look on histology?
what is a variant of nevus flammeus?
its the most common vascular ectasia, a pink to blue flat lesion on head or neck
you see dilation of dermal vessels that will regress
port wine stain because it does not regress
what is sturge weber syndrome?
what symptoms are seen?
it is a ipsilateral CNS vascular malformation where you see Arterio-venous malformations in the leptomeninges that calcify and bleed
mental retardation, seizure
what is a spider angioma?
this condition is associated with what disease?
arterio-venous malformation with a red dot in the center with reddish extensions (veins) radiating outward
hyperestrinism (increased estrogen) in preganancy and cirrhosis
what is osler-weber rendu disease?
what symptoms do you see?
what is the presentation?
most common genetic vascular disease, autosomal dominant
dilated vessels on skin and mouth/GI
nose bleed, blood in vomit, GI bleed because vessels erode and rupture (lead to anemia)
what is this?
sturge-weber syndrome
what is this?
spider angioma
what is this?
osler-weber-rendu
