Vascular Flashcards
Red infacts (where occur, how are they caused in these sites)
Lungs, liver, gut
Causes - venous occlusion, loose spongy tissue, congested tissue, dual circulation, re-established flow
White infacts (where occur and what causes in these sites)
Kidney, heart, spleen
Causes - arterial occlusions, end artery supply, tissue density limits spread of blood from adjacent tissue
Thrombi
a) Problems
b) Venous thrombi
c) Arterial thrombi
a) Can occlude the vessel, cause infarction. Can embolise and cause infarction elsewhere. Can propagate. Can cause infection
b) Macroscopically - pale head with long red tail. Microscopically - little lamination
c) Macroscopically - very pale as mostly fibrin and platelets. Microscopically - has clear lamination (lines of Zahn - pale = fibrin and platelets, darker = more RBCs)
