What are the SSx of vasa praevia?
A
Acute fetal compromise after spontaneous or artificial rupture of membranes
Dark red vaginal bleeding

Treatment for vasa praevia?
A
ABCDE Prepare the following to give: - Plasmalyte - Crossmatched blood/O rhesus negative blood - Fresh Frozen Plasma - Cryoprecipitate - Platelets
Emergency C-section and neonatal resuscitation
Anti-D

How to screen for vasa praevia?
A
USS in the 3rd trimester - may not pick up

Elective Tx for vasa praevia?
A
Elective C-section between 34 - 36 weeks (to avoid rupture of membranes/labour at 37 weeks)
Give corticosteroids from 32 weeks onwards

Risk factors for vasa praevia?
A
Low-lying placenta
Multiple pregnancy
IVF pregnancy
bilobed and especially succenturiate lobed placentas.
