Variety of living organism Flashcards
What are eukaryotes?
More complex/contain a nucleaus/single or multicellular/contains membrane bound organelles
What are prokaryotes?
very simple/no nucleus/no membrane bound organelles/very small/are unicellular (bacteria)
Name 4 eukaryotic organisms
- Plants
- Animals
- Fungi
- Protoctists
Name some common plant features (6)
These are multicellular organisms, their cells contain chloroplasts and are able to carry out photosynthesis; their cells have cellulose cell walls and they store carbohydrates as starch or sucrose. They contain a vacuole.
Name some common animal features (7)
These are multicellular organisms; their cells do not contain chloroplasts and are not able to carry out photosynthesis; they have no cell walls or vacuoles; they usually have nervous co-ordination and they often store carbohydrate as glycogen.
Name some common fungi features ()
Name some common protoctist features ()
These are microscopic single-celled organisms. Some, like Amoeba, that live in pond water, have features like an animal cell, while others, like Chlorella, have chloroplasts and are more like plants.
How do plants store carbohydrates?
-Plants store carbohydrates as starch and sucrose in their cells
How do animals store carbohydrates?
-Animals store carbohydrates as glycogen in their cells
