VANS signs of damage Flashcards
Lateral scapula and shoulder
Signs of damage: Atrophy of the suraspinatus and infraspinatus m. with subsequent prominent scapular spine; decreased ability to laterally stabilize the shoulder
Medial scapula
Signs of damage: Decreased ability to medially stabilize shoulder; no significant clinical signs
Cranial muscles of Brachium
Signs of damage: Flexor reflex at the elbow is weak; loss of cutaneous sensation on the medial aspect of the antebrachium
Caudal scapula and shoulder
Signs of damage: Weakened ability to flex shoulder. Decreased stability of the shoulder. Loss of cutaneous sensation of the lateral shoulder region
Lateral thorax
Signs of damage: Loss of skin twitching
Caudal brachium
Signs of damage: Injury of proximal radial n produces complete loss of extension of all joints distal to the shoulder and loss of cutaneous sensation on the dorsal antebrachium and paw
Cranial antebrachium
Signs of damage: Injury of proximal radial n produces complete loss of extension of all joints distal to the shoulder and loss of cutaneous sensation on the dorsal antebrachium and paw
Caudal antebrachium
Signs of damage: Decreases ability to flex the carpus/digits
Decreased sensation to palmar paw
Decreased ability to flex carpus and digits. Loss of cutaneous sensation of fifth digit
Dorsal paw
Signs of damage: Injury of proximal radial n produces complete loss of extension of all joints distal to the shoulder and loss of cutaneous sensation on the dorsal antebrachium and paw
Palmar paw
Signs of damage: Signs of damage: Decreases ability to flex the carpus/digits
Decreased sensation to palmar paw
Decreased ability to flex carpus and digits. Loss of cutaneous sensation of fifth digit
