What is the Van De Graaff about?
A
This instrument generates electrical charge, it includes 2 rollers, and a belt which is turning around the rollers, and a dome at the top of the top roller.
When the belt is rubbing against the lower roller, as the lower roller is made out of Teflon it gains electrons from the belt. So the belt is positively charged, these positive charges are moving with belt upwards, when they reach at the top of the upper roller, the electrons from dome jump to neutralize positive charges. As a result dome is positively charged.
