Valves Flashcards
What is another name for a gate valve?
Wedge or knife valve
Where would you use a globe valve?
Throttling applications
What does wog stand for?
Water, oil, gas
What does WSP stand for?
Working steam pressure.
What kind of flow does a ball valve create?
Laminar
What is the purpose of a check valve?
Prevent back flow or reverse flow within the piping system
What one some different names for cheat valves?
Non-return, reflux, retention, foot and one-way valve
What are some advantages / disadvantages of diagram pumps?
Advantages
Throttling usage
Used for different materials
No steam leak or packing to be serviced
Disadvantages
Corrosion / abrasion are factors
May erode quickly if used for serve throttling
What are some advantages/disadvantages of ball valves?
Advantages
- quick to open/close
- small/light
- minimal resistance
- available in multi part design
Disadvantages
- not suitable for sustained periods for throttling
- removing handle is not locking out
What are some advantages / disadvantages of a butterfly valve?
Advantages
- compact/require minimal space for installation
- light weight
- available in NPT 1.5 to 200 inches
Disadvantages
- throttling is limited from 30 - 80 degrees of the disc opening
- prone to cavitation or chocked flow when used for throttling
- turbulence will affect the movement of the disc
