Why is breestfeeding good for mother, baby and society?

A

For baby - acts as aprotection against illnesses providing antigens such as diabetes, SIDS, changes how genes kick in and when baby knows to stop bc they r full.
For mum - longer breastfeed less chance of ovarian or breast cancer temporarily reduces fertility to enable birth spacing.
For society - provides best start of life mitigating poverty and promoting health equity.

Why is breast milk good?

A

Change depending what baby needs, eg environment age. Baby born with sterile gut not yet pasteurised breastmilk contain a live microbes coating baby’s gut. As newborns have ‘leaky gut’ harmful bacteria can latch to the healthy bacteria stops this.

Why do we have formula?

A

For mothers that can’t breastfeed or don’t want to, to provide extra nutrients and because of convenience.

A

Instant milk types or powder versions with added hot water (all must have a 1 on them for first instant formula) to feed a 10 week old costs £44-89 the premium around £112.
