What happens immediately after birth?
A
Baby received usually by midwife, dried thoroughly and stimulated, baby transitions to extra-uterine life by crying/breathing,then placed on mother’s abdomen.

How to position baby for skin to skin?
A
Ensure thoroughly dried, place on mother’s abdomen against chest (position varies according to cord length), baby head turned to the side so nose and mouth are free. Cover with warm towel and check both mum and baby are well supported. Allow instinctual mother behaviour to adjust dyad position.
